Is that the Jesuit Santa Clara in the heart of Silicon Valley that you
refer to? Interesting.
On students as readers of Pynchon it does strike me that some of the few
Pynchon readers aside from the p-list I've encountered have been students
or recently in student status. Even going back a couple of decades V. and
Lot 49 were sometimes assigned though probably not taught. A nephew read
both about 20 years ago I remember him telling me. As far as I know he's
never gotten caught up in the system as you describe. He's kind of
resistance and protest oriented still I guess. Don't know who was the
greater influence--Pynchon or his parents.
