Berube is (practically) always worth a read.  I came across Marginal Forces/Cultural Centres about three years ago and think it's still the best researched meditation on both the Pynchon industry and the work Pynchon's work does or is made to do (and, Berube's big point, can be made to do) within the culture.  I never quite understood Berube on pornography and Pynchon, though, and know too little about Tolson to pass a judgment.
