One more point, this ties into the rap thread. What I have
noticed is that ivory tower these days, has less regard for
history and facts, and seems to make excuses to teach
political "narrative" and myth as "History." What about Mr
Faucault's scholarship? Sloppy but brilliant. Yeah, ok. In
the rap song "Black Man In Effect" by KRS-1, the rapper
claims that the Greeks did not invent any of the philosophy
attributed to them, no, they stole it all from Egypt.
What's not funny about this, is that the so called scholars
the rappers get this crap from don't have editors nearly as
smart as the rappers. Some of the Afrocentric crap coming
out of the ivory tower is so sloppy it's frightening. Here
we go, at the ivory tower today, students are confronted by
an ever-widening body of knowledge and arguments of
corresponding complexity and theoretical application. Some
of these rest upon myth-making and political considerations
rather than on scholarship or a desire for getting the facts
straight, the story right. The Afrocentric attack on
Hellenism is particularly poor on facts and rich on crap,
but we see that "truth" and
"history" are in quotes to avoid and prevent any critical
understanding of the past that might not serve the political
agenda of the ivory tower.
