Writers are fascinating, of course. Some parts of the
Oct 96 emails I have read again and again. How
successful would a P biography ever be: one can only
conjecture. I can think of three fictional versions:
1) Paris Pilgrims: Clancy Carlile
Hemingway in Paris, shaping his art. This novel
panders shamelessly to the worst cliches. But an
educating read. Can it get worse than this?
2) Benjamin's crossing: Jay Parini
Walter Banjamin running to his suicide. Back and
forth. A bit more sobre, even distinguished.
3) Hallucinating Foucault: Patricia Duncker
More fictional but raises far more interesting issues
than either of the above.
Once again, please post any suggestions in the same
vein. I already have a great list going. Thanks for
all the suggestions.
