v. and orlando

Do not allow yourself to be barraged by abuse. Not so sure if you'd want to
claim V. as an "appropriation" or whatever of Orlando--at any rate, I sure
wouldn't, but, then again, I don't have to, so ...--and I'd certainly shy away
from claims of anything being "essentially," "about" or otherwise, the "same"
thing, not in the least Orlando and V., Woolf's novel foregrounding far more
than Pynchon's issues of gender 'n' sexuality (though I've been much intrigued
of late by that issue of gender in, the gender of, V.), but that schematic of a
Protean figure perhaps figuring history, now that's an interesting an
applicable notion, I think. Of course, it's not quite the assignment, now, is
it? But it seems to me that the burden of proof is on you to demonstrate that
V. is specifically, I don't know, influenced by, intertextual with Orlando, so
... which I guess simply does NOT answer the question--anybody?
