The True Origins of Slavery

There was recently a PBS "documentary" called this. I didn't see it, but it
was supposedly a "bold" take.

In the debate of "Who Were the Worst Slavers," LAW must enter the picture.
LAW regulates the rights of individuals. Slavery is a vastly diverse
institution under different regimes. So, of course is marriage. The
similarity is not coincedental.

Jacob was sold into slavery by his eleven jealous brothers. He rose to
2nd-in-Command in Egypt. Of course God helped a litle. The point is, some
societies perpetuate a slave-class forever. Others permit eventual
emancipation. Color would obviously hinder this upward mobility, thus
like-skinned slaves would fare best in becomming "free."
