The Soviet Union hesitated to intervene in the Algerian war because 1.) the 
anti-colonialist liberation fight of the FLN doesn't fit to the ideological 
"framework" of the marxist-leninists at that time - because the FLN defined 
itself as a "national liberation movement" and not as a class-struggle party 
- in the beginning; and 2.) the French Communist Party was for the war and 
against the FLN.
I think that's enough for today on this subject.
