I'm with you on the culpability of CIA and the government
here Doug, but my experience with "Train Spotting"
(substitute crack) (AIDS, crack house dens of death)
and the violence (inhibitions released doesn't quite
describe it), deceit, psychosis, betrayal, total loss of
human dignity, etc., well you know, "I'll sell you my
daughter for a rock..."
Doug asks:
Ease some of the social problems, take the CIA and violent
drug peddlers out of the equation -- cocaine as a
socially-approved stimulant wouldn't look so evil, or would
it?
I think so, pretty evil shit, but what drug isn't evil when
abused. It's just that crack is not a drug most folks can
use (smoke a rock on a friday night and go back to life on
Monday) without terrible consequences, or even use say once
a year or once in a blue, as one might take mushrooms on a
grand canyon trip, have the experience of heaven and not
need to have it again and again, and again. It's the most
destructive substance around these parts and it can and does
destroy lives (children) everyday. Methadone doesn't help,
12 step doesn't work, nothing works in most cases, it's
pretty hopeless. What works is getting kids out
of the neighborhood altogether, but that isn't a solution to
the problems that you mention-- poverty, police, pushers.
Think of it this way, if you went to school and the school
was a dump, the books were ripped, the desks broken, the
teachers burnt out, unqualified, would you think
anybody gave a damn about you? Would you think, hey this is
America, I can be president or I want to be a cop when I
grow up? Or would you join a gang? Spending per pupil in the
NYC school system is less than 1/3 of the expenditures per
pupil at the
school TRP attended. Why should students that live less than
15 miles
away receive less when they need more? Now that may irritate
some, but the inequalities don't begin when you leave NYC
and go to the affluent suburbs, you don't even have to leave
Manhatten to find such savage inequalities. Ahgh, let me get
off this soap-box too.
