on the tarot card "the moon" [- path 29, qoph, pisces], about which i dropped
some shit earlier in this grgr, aleister crowley writes:

"the here possible light is more deadly than darkness, and the calm gets
wounded by the howl of wild beasts.
which god shall we call for help? it's anubis, the guard of the twilight, the
god on the threshold, the jackal-god of khem, which stands in doubled form in
between the ways [- this refers to the picture you see on the card of
crowley/harris, kfl]. vigilantly the jackals at his feet wait to devour the
corpses of those, who did not recognize him or did not know his name.
this is the threshold of life and this is the threshold of death. everything is
doubtful, everything is mysterious, everything is poison and infatuation. not
the pleasant, sun-like intoxication of dionysos, but the terrible madness of
harmful drugs; this is the drunkenness of the senses, after the spirit has been
annihilated by the poison of this moon."
(m.o.p.a.r.t from the german edition of "the book of thoth" [1944], p. 121)

kfl /: ps: [important] "no matter, what terror may afflict the soul, what
abhorrence may evoke the disgust of the heart, what shock may assault the mind,
the answer is on very level the same: 'how magnificent is the adventure!'" ib.
