Just an opinion, so it can be taken for what it's worth, but no way is "Never
Die" (or anything by Barry Hannah, for that matter), far superior to "Warlock".
Maybe Cormac McCarthy in "Blood Meridian" comes close, but even as I type that
in, I think it's a stretch. Finally got around to "Warlock" a couple of months
ago, (and I'm not a fan of the western genre at all---have never read Zane Grey
or Louis L'amour or any other 'western' authors), and I thought it was an amazing
book, completely transcending its genre. Coover's "Ghost Town" isn't really
comparable to "Warlock" in depth, but in that it also sets out to transcend the
genre, I think it is approachable.

Incidentally, Hannah's best work is to be found in "Airships", and his most
sustained novel was his shortest, "Ray". Again, one guy's opinion, but I don't
like reading him near as much now that he's sober.
