I haven't read it yet, but I have the book and can't wait to get into it. I
did go to a couple readings from House of Leaves given by Danielewski in the
LA area recently, one at Skylight and one at Book Soup, and it seems like a
pretty damn interesting book.
Y'all may find this interesting too: I bought his book when I went to the
second reading at Book Soup, and I got in line to have him write something in
it. I remembered that during the Q&A after the first event at Skylight
somebody asked Danielewski about his influences/what-he-likes, and he listed
Pynchon among a handful of other writers. So when I had him sign the book I
asked if he'd finished Mason & Dixon, what he thought of it, etc. He said he
had read it and liked it very much, and then he asked what my favorite
Pynchon book is. Of course I said GR and he nodded, and at this point his
girlfriend or wife (significant other) volunteered that Danielewski and some
friends once sat down and read GR straight through out loud without stopping.
Holy shit, I said. I once tried to read the whole thing out loud, but
certainly not all at once.
It's important to do it like that, he said.
To hear the sound of the language.
Yup.
