Nope Sir,
paranoia in GR is on binary oppositions, not on the disease (and I feel very
sorry for Michael´s brother and hope he stays well and stable).

The last of Pynchon´s proverbs for paranoids (the one that breaks up the
binary structure of the four before) sez that paranoids are not paranoid but
putting themselves "deliberately" into paranoid situations.

There´s only paranoia (everything´s connected) or no-paranoia (no
connection, everybody does the journey just once and alone and dies,
naturally or in a an accident or war, a sense for existentialism, absurdity
and the postmodern condition are natural reactions of an intelligent human
being in the 20th century feeling this). If the puritans/fundamentalists are
right and everythings´s planned and set in advance by the Lord (whoever they
may call HIM), then there´s really reason to be paranoid in the sense Tyrone
Slothrop feels about the rocket with his name on it. But the novel is also
about all of us, second sheep, living under the threat of the ICBM´s when
TRP wrote the book.

I tried to make clear the point about Pynchon´s strictly binary use of
paranoia on my website by putting all the proverbs together: master vs.
creatures, innocence vs. immorality, questions vs. answers, hide vs. seek.
