Although I have yet to read _Women and Men_, I have read the rest of Mr.
Elroy's oeuvre and I have had no trouble understanding any of them, despite
the fact that English is my first language.  Perhaps one has to be open
to/familiar with his other work, i.e., interested in the history of the
LAPD, the murder of his mother, etc., to understand this one. 

_House of Leaves_ is on my list--thankx.
