May I add my own favorite (GR off competition) to this list? Here's a book
that deserves to be read and re-read and studied closely and brought to the
fame it deserves. And sorry in advance for the English-speaking majority
here. It's just a damned good (big) book about a bunch of pathetically
resisting French P.O.Ws, and the language is unique (kind of Celinesque,
only better): *Les Poulpes,* by Raymond Guerin (all his novels, by the way,
are great). I truely hope it's been translated into English so everybody can
read it. If it has, especially for GR readers, this will be a great read.
Best.
Tom.
