Perhaps Michel meant "at the time the war was ending."  That's how I read
it, anyway.

Welcome to Pynchon-L, Michel. Many of us enjoy hearing from the
non-native-English speaking participants enough to overlook the occasional
imprecision, and some of us might even refrain from trying to make cheap
jokes at the expense of a less-than-perfectly-turned English phrase.  (I'd
like to see how well most of us native English speakers would do in trying
to write intelligently about Pynchon in Dutch or French.)

You certainly do bring to GR a perspective that I haven't heard expressed
recently on Pynchon-L, living where you do.

Some of us are interested in the historical and political content of
Pynchon's novels, too -- perhaps even more interested in exploring those
aspects than in analyzing his writing in terms of literary theory. But
Pynchon-L is a big tent after all, room for everybody.
