On this day The Great LORD Bertrand Russell was born.
Russell received the Nobel for Literature 1950, alas, no
Nobel Prize is awarded for Philosophy.

AND on this day in 1896:

The Supreme Court endorsed the concept of
''separate
but equal'' racial segregation with its
Plessy vs. Ferguson
decision, a ruling that was overturned 58
years later in
                 Brown vs. Board of Education.

Interesting (but I think, well, interesting)take on
Pynchon's view of Civil Rights Legislation by Joe Boulter's
essay in that Oak City Law Review. Excellent essay,
judicious use of Twain, King, Macolm X, etc.
