Un grito atraviesa el espacio. Ya ocurrió otras veces, pero ahora no hay
nada con qué compararlo.
It was translated by Antoni Pigrau for Ediciones Grijalbo in 1978. I don´t
know if the Tusquets edition mantains this translation or has a new one.
A.P.´s translation is "acceptable". I haven´t checked it with the original
text (I don´t own it, damn!) but you don´t feel the need to do so when
reading it, so it must be good (as opossed to Vineland´s, that after two or
three chapters you begin to feel curious about the original Pynchon text).
BTW, A.P. had a very hard time in the Kenosha Kid section (who won´t!
"difficult to translate" is a very mild description of it) but anyway it
doesn´t hurt the eye too much.
Anyway, last time I read GR was in january 1997 and the second half under
not-so-happy circumstances, so any opinion of its translation is maybe
distorted by the passage of time and the stress lived.
And life goes on.
