Not counting some earlier pieces and experimentations, Schoenberg
composed four "official" quartets (Op. 7, 10, 30 & 37).
My favorite renditions are from the amazing Arditti Quartet, experts
in the modern and postmodern repertoire. All four Schoenberg quartets
were released as a 2-CD set from Montaigne: 1994 MO 782024, with the
Arditti and Dawn Upshaw as soprano on Quartet II. Unfortunately, I
can't find this set at either Amazon or AllClassicalMusic.com, so
perhaps it has been deleted?
Anyway, if you can find any versions by the Arditti, snatch them up!

Do you want to see what human eyes have never seen? Look at the moon.
Do you want to hear what ears have never heard? Listen to the bird's cry.
Do you want to touch what hands have never touched? Touch the earth.
Verily I say that God is about to create the world.
