So much for Solopsism?
What has become of the of the soul of V. history? Where is the inner spiritual character of the Human? Does it only exist on the surface? Cut up one's nose to spite the soul?
Just for fun See Remedios Varo's Mirrored "Lovers" and "Vist to the Plastic Surgeons" and others
Catholic/Jew--Long Island? The skinny on this is too sensitive for this flamed to raw flesh and blackened bone list-serve where libel threatens even this mad poster. "Sticks and stones may break glass homes but names should never arm you."
The skin, the beauty that is only skin deep? Or is it projected outward/inward (Dickens) until only the mirror image contains beauty? Only the mirror image contains the soul? Don't take my picture. Oh my soul. The Ponogrpahy of the soul's Platonic flight. Thanks again Dave Monroe. I'll post on Vogelin later. What is it about the fearful assembly of the individual's "re(e)ality" distorted by reflection and reflection? Solopsistic? Maybe Narcissistic at this point in Pynchon? And these Narcissistic concerns with surface self are countered with insidious skin diseases and other diseases that cut deeply. Leprosy, Jesus, Leprosy, all my skin--- TEN (she had it, she took some sulpher from the cabinet and we tried to ---is falling off of me/I'm not half the man I used to be/ Oh I believe in....
How it slowly destroys the the tissue of illusion.
If there's any political moral to be found in this world, Stencil once
wrote in his journal, it is that we carry on the business of this century with an intolerable double vision, Right and Left; the hothouse and the street. The Right can only live and work hermetically, in the hothouse of the past, while outside the Left prosecute their affairs in the streets by manipulated mob violence. And cannot live but in the dreamscape of the future. What of the real present, the men-of-no-politics, the once respectable Golden Mean? Obsolete; in any case, lost sight of. In a West of such extremes we can expect, at the very least, a highly "alienated" populace within not many more years.
The real present and any sense of moderation are sacrificed to political and temporal abstractions which cruelly divest contemporary people of a sense of belonging to, and being able to perform meaningful acts in, the present. The Left and the Right share extremism.
There is also an huge bibliography oof Satire in the archives. It includes some publications on The Waste Land and HoD.
