How old is the The Novel?

The Golden Ass and Satyricon?

Ancient Novels?

Ancient Menippean Satire?

Isn't Saturae Menippeae the title of a work by the Roman
Varro?

Menippean Satire was used as a generic term long before
Frye.

Was it used before the 16th Century?

Does the idea that TRP's books may be read as MS have more
to do with the prominence given the term in Bakhtin's theory
of the novel than anything else?

What is the character of this ancient and medieval genre we
call MS?

Is it anything like the MS that is now better known as a
modern or postmodern genre?

Do postmodernists collapse when they hear the words genre
and postmodern in the same sentence?
