The Differance of Actuality and Possibility

"Do you believe in Astrology? I'm a Sagittarius, the most philosophical of
all signs...Anyway, I don't believe in it. It's all a bunch of bullshit."
(Jim Morrison - An American Prayer)

"To understand Gurdjieff you will have to drop all your categories, all your
labels of sinners and saints and this and that.
In him the sinner and the saint meet."
(old Buggy, pretty binary too of course, but I've never been a disciple of
him. Disappointed: well, actually he's been the one whose jokes never
disappointed me:-)

I was talking about the structure of GR and other postmodern fiction, not
about possible references and meanings of the Tarot, which surely offers a
nearly inexhaustible number of points of comparison to other metaphysical
systems.

And I simply don't believe in "self-transcending" processes. Plus I doubt
that the "self" itself can be considered as an entity in Pynchon's view.
"Now memory is a traitor: gilding, altering. The word is, in sad fact,
meaningless, based as it is on the false assumption that identity is single,
soul continuous." (V. p. 307)

Logocentrism
p o l a r i t i e s, d i a l e c t i c s are just other words for binaries.

>"the sun" and "the moon" do stand in binary opposition is not really a
ground-shaking recognition ..."<

But goes pretty good along with *decon* (as you liked to call my
speciality).

Pretty logocentric, that Luhmann-definition (slightly altered makes it
postmodern, see headline) of meaning, and pretty binary too: "any actual
social or mental issue is *shaped against* the endless horizon of
significance" - actual vs endless, issue vs significance, *meaning* as an
external reference point has replaced God. What does Luhmann say about
Pynchon?

There's nothing new under the sun, except what we have forgotten.

Otto
"Die schärfsten Kritiker der Elche waren früher selber welche."
(F.K. Wächter)
