Nobel Laureate 2000 ...

Well, here in Stockholm I'm pretty sure no-one except the members of
"Svenska Akademien" know who Xingjian is. I work part time at a library when
I'm not studying and we had ONE novel by him, and I don't think that anybody
there has read it (I certainly haven't). This is why Pynchon will never get
the Nobel Prize - too many people have read his books :-) Ok, this is not
the case here where only GR is available in swedish, but he is famous.
Besides, if rumours and claims about how other Nobel Laureates' abilities to
write decline after they get the Nobel Prize are true (Hemingway among
others comes to mind) I'm perfectly happy if Pynchon never gets it. I'll
keep enjoying his novels and eagerly await the next one, even if I have to
wait another ten years. In the meantime I'll try to persuade my friends to
pick up a 700-page book in English and start reading.
