I don't know why this is such a problem. What is the problem
with this kind of reading? These kinds of statements? It's
far from unusual (in fact it is very common for Pynchon
critics) to state that the author, particularly an author of
satire,  says, or instructs or tells or even teaches...so
what is the problem? Is it only that these statements don't
work here on a list serve?
