James,
what? you're confused by the confusion?
---it seems to be so on both counts, i.e. confuse the reader, as well as
allude to the confusion of the business world via the unattributed dialogue.
---Gaddis displayed this craft of overlapping dialogue in his first book,
"The Recognitions," and, I guess, decided to nourish the skeleton of JR's
plot on logorrhea rather than "convention." I applaud your undertaking of
JR---I gave up after 100 pages.
---also, being new to the list, i'm wondering how JR dovetails into GR?
viz., what incited this comparison?
