I don't think the concept of apocheir--defined as the point farthest from the yo-yo hand--applies here. My take is when Benny's on the shuttle he is a participant in a yo-yo trick that I think is called "Rockin' the Baby," in which the yo-yo string is gathered into a sort of cat's cradle in one hand and the yo-yo swings back and forth on a very short leash. Clearly he's close to the yo-yo hand (that would be at the pericheir) the whole time. Rachel lives in Morningside Heights and works downtown. It's not unlikely that she took a 1/9 train through Times Square while Benny was shuttling crosstown.
