 "pynchon's vision differs from the usual presentations of the apocalypse in 
  modernity by taking it serious instead of dissing it. pynchon predicts and 
  evokes a  n e w  advent, whitsunny [?! - "pfingstlich"] and entropically at 
  the same time, awaking not so much fear but --- hope."
