The tradition of excellence continues, but I imagine you're getting
enough of that anyway (I won't find out 'til the next digest arrives),
so ... much to remark upon, starting with the pagination thing. We're
starting at p. 39 (i.e., Chapter 2) in those Harper Whatever eds., in
case anyone's still confused. And, without necessarily invoking that
"Big Book Theory" alluded to earlier (I'm of the opinion that it's safer
to largely stay with works produced to date, here, 1963), it is indeed
interesting just how many of Pynchon's later little fascinations (that
White Sands thing, for starters ...) are to be found here. How much
public knowledge is there of the development of Pynchon's novels?
But on that McClintic Sphere/Theolonious Monk thing (enter p. 55 in the
Harper eds.), do by all means see Charles Hollander's "Does McClintic
Sphere in V. Stand for Theolonious Monk?" (I won't ruin the surprise by
giving away the answer ...) conveniently online @

Good call on him "swinging his ass off" there, by the way. Now, about
that mirror time thing ...
