Skin, as we will discover soon, is an important organ in
this novel. Why is McClintic Sphere's skin "hard", "as if it
were part of his skull"? Like a puppet maybe? The green
light, associated earlier, with sickness, death, the
inanimate, brings out or highlights his facial features,
like the "twin lines running down from either side of his
lower lip..."
He blows a hand-carved IVORY sax.
His blowing is compared with the wind.
These are not good signs.
McClinic Sphere is not a very cool guy in this novel.
