Joseph Campbell once noted that  religion is misunderstood myth and that myth 
is someone else's religion.  The points you make in your post are somewhat 
beside the point.  Use of myth abounds in GR, of course, and myths are free 
to interpretation; that has little to do with insisting on a dogmatic and 
absolutist Christian interpretation.
