"So, what IS the significance of Blicero launching the 00000"--the
Rocket--"in the text?" Good question, still awaiting answers here, but
do note, it IS "the Rocket," THE Rocket, the 00000, poised at that "last
delta-t" Sword-o'-Damocles-like o'er the Orpheus Theater (in my best
["best ..."] William-Conrad-as-Cannon growl, eyebrow cocked, locked on
target: "Meaning ...?"), it IS a novel, a work of Fiction ("I'd like to
return this book ...") here, figures, elements, objects, even,
functioning (mit or mitout an emphasis on the "fun") not necesarily as
the would, might, do in that there Real World ((c) MTV) you hear so much
about ("suspension of disbelief" ... not to mention a Rocket above a
Theater ...), "falling nearly a mile per second" (haven't done the
calculations, but soundzabout right as a terminal velocity here),
"absolutely and forever without sound" (unlike yr average ev'ryday V-2,
No One [not even Peter Noone, back to (Ground) Zero (Zero Zero Zero
Zero) here] will be around to hear that perhaps "screaming" after the
supersonic impact [you never hear the one that gets you ...]) ...

Blicero. Rocket. "Kreplach!" Comments?

Also interested in the imagery just preceeding: "walls, which are hard
and glossy as coal"; "The screen is a dim page spread before us, white
and silent" (speaking of deconstructive offers [one in ev'ry box ...],
howzabout a reading of this as the scene of writing? Or of Bleaching
...); "The film"--what film? Gravity's Rainbow, "Now a Major Motion
Picture"--"has broken, or a projector bulb"--Byron the ...? but also,
the projector, the planetarium, cf. the book bookended by the inception,
publication of Gravcity's Rainbow, "shall I project a world?"--"has
burned out" (but which? and why? and does it matter? in either case? "It
was difficult even for us [...] to tell which before the darkness swept
in"--but not necessarily impossible ...); "old fans who've always been
at the movies (haven't we?)" (have we? vs. "They"? "always"? In what
sense? where? how?); "The last image," why "too immediate for any eye to
register"? How is it an "image" tehn, if it goes unregistered by any
eye?; "It may have been a human figure"--or it may not have been
...--"dreaming of an early evening in each great capital ..."--now THAT
bit I find richly evocative, yet profoundly elusive--anyone?; "... the
first star. But it was not a star"--cf. those negations in, say, Samuel
Beckett's Molloy, raining/not raining, midnight/not midnight--"it was
falling, a bright angel of death"--like that Rocket, maybe?; "something
has kept on, a film we have not learned to see"--wonder what Charles
Holander would, has made of THAT line--"it is now a closeup of the face,
a face we all know"--whose face? Gottfried's (Got[t] fried ...)? What
"face" would "we all know"? Reminded of Deleuze and Guattari on
"faciality," the face of Christ as the exemplar thereof (The Big Fake
Book), here, that Second Coming, that Armageddon, that Apocalypse, but
... and then that dash, like the dash at the very end, The Very End,
that "last delta-t," "the pointed tip of the Rocket" ...

Hm, "Descent," an "s," an integration, away from "decent," cf. Michael
Berube on Gravity's Rainbow's "pornographies," reassemblies (Marginal
Forces/Cultural Centers) ... in the meantime, thanks for the "Enola GAY"
tip, hadn't even occured (to me, that is) ....
