Gaddis & Pynch the unclean bard

I  read this little tid-bit in Britannica after looking up Gaddis:

"Gaddis's fiction shows the influence of the writings of James Joyce and, in 
turn, influenced the work of Thomas Pynchon; "

Since only one of Gaddis's books were published prior to V., and the next 
one was to published 20 years later, way after TRP has finished V., Lot49, 
and GR, I wonder if this is just an assumption on Britannica's part. I have 
heard the name Gaddis, for some reason my brain puts it in context with 
Vidal Gore, I can't seem to remember why; perhaps I am  merely thinking in  
alphebetical order.
