I didn't really think the style (self-indulgent, sarcastic), content (petty,
local issues; nasty attacks on contemporary writers) or context (why *would*
he write letters to the editor of a puny regional newspaper like the AVA
anyway, when any of his expressed opinions on wider political/literary
subjects would be automatically snapped up by the one of the major dailies?)
were much like Pynchon at all. I stopped reading at about the point when
"Tinasky" started paying out on Gary Snyder, but I had been convinced long
before that. The vision just wasn't the same.
