Not to mention what fascism did to language. See 'LCI' by Victor Klemperer (Lingua Tertii Imperii) in
which mr. Klemperer, who kept a diary during the period,  states that nazism, by corrupting language,
was helpful in creating a distance between what happened in Germany at the time, and how it was
conceived by the German people.  Hence the many, ultimately meaningless abbreviations of which we see
echoes in Gravity's Rainbow.
