VV(13) - Conspiracy

Mondaugen's initiation into Foppl's world begins with his sighting a "patch 
or pool of deep red" down in the inner courtyard of the castle.  It makes 
him shiver.  And immediately he becomes Vera Meroving's voyuer.  Sex and 
Death are here unified by guilt, by a "conspiracy" to indulge in those 
savory vices (sex & killing) but to pretend otherwise.

Vera and Weissmann's S&M mirror performance is surely staged just for 
Mondaugen.  It seem that Mondaugen is being purposely initiated into a new 
world where the forbidden is embraced and where the innocent cannot stay so.

approached the man and stooped to listen for breathing or a heartbeat, 
trying not to see the white vertebrae that winked at him from one long 
opening.
