Very, very quickly.  Have repeatedly emphasized the
Civil Rights movement, as well as the Cold War, as a
context here.  A siege, racial unrest ... and believe
you me, the shrift I've been giving D'Annunzio has
been anything but short, here or, esp., elsewhere. 
Jus' waitin' fer th' books t'come in, 's'all.  And to
have the time for what's already on deck.  Again, I
highly recommend Mario Praz's The Romantic Agony to
anny and all concerned ...
