Thanks for reminding me - I knew that article but your mentioning made me
read it again.

My original reaction to it was that I wondered what could turn a profi
journalist and self-acclaimed Pynchon-fan into a papparazzo 'cause he cannot
explain it himself. His assertion that the "paparazzi are the people's
proxy" is ridiculous.

Now on second reading I'm more amused about the description of the
Pynchon-list which opens the article, "a quasi-cult of over-educated
oddballs who hold furious debates on the Internet."

But what I've luckily never seen here was passing around "artists'
impressions of how he might look, as though they were samizdats of the
Soviet era."
