"jbor":
"Funny, the words "the Holocaust is central to _GR_" keep ringing in my
ears. But, whatever ...."
Maybe that's why "jbor" can't hear what I'm saying. When, if, the
ringing in his/her ears stops, "jbor" will realize, perhaps, that
the formulation he/she keeps repeating, "Pynchon only depicts Herero
history as a metaphor", has always been "jbor's" statement and never
mine.
Yes, I do argue that the Holocaust is central to GR. It's a
proposition that's easy to support, not surprisingly since this
simple observation falls within the mainstream of Pynchon criticism
which is rife with articles that consider one then another aspect of
the Holocaust-related material in GR. Rewriting GR to show that
Pynchon exculpates the perpetrators of that genocide and instead
blames the victims -- that falls a bit outside the mainstream, but
anybody is free to put forward anything they want to say in this
forum.
Glad "jbor" and Paul have straightened us out on what Pynchon was
thinking when he wrote "the thing goes deeper" in that Hirsch letter.
What do you suppose Pynchon's thinking about right this minute?
Enquiring minds want to know. And, thanks for reminding me of what I
had to say about what Pynchon actually wrote -- as opposed to trying
to read his mind as he was writing it -- in that letter, touching
that "jbor" would save my email all these months, too. Gives me
chills, in fact. Although, as Pynchon said re Jules Siegel, "jbor"
might consider getting a life... "jbor's" frequent comments about
"stalkers" begin to take on a chilly edge, too.
Weavercreature, I take your observations to heart. I will retire
from this particular fray once again. Every once in awhile, however,
I believe it's worth pointing out the elephants in this living room
and the smell that can't be shoveled up, even if pointing out the
hypocrisy and bullying and intellectual dishonesty does draw the kind
of thick-headed response you see from "David Morris" and his
side-kicks -- it is interesting to watch what they've made of this
forum as everybody else has gradually slipped away, the efforts of
Terrance and Davd Monroe and a couple of others notwithstanding. If
I thought that my going away would actually return Pynchon-L to its
former state, I'd go -- but when I stayed away for several months
last year, the crap just kept piling up without any help from me at
all. "jbor" and the other personalities in that cracked constellation
don't seem to have any problems finding new targets for their spew --
just ask the abovementioned Terrance and Dave Monroe about that.
