David Monroe re Paul Mackin:

<<What such admittedly armchair psychology might seriously be intended to
accomplish here, rhetorically or otherwise, I don't know. Doug and I have
had our disagreements .... [more apologies for Doug.]>>

I think Paul intends no accomplishment beyond stating a point of view; i.e.,
that Millison's persona (let's call it, or his cyberspace voice) is quite
often intellectually dishonest, proprietary, obsessive, even delusional
(among other things (and examples upon request)).

Any number of us have, after much fruitless and pointless wrangling with him,
concluded that we are dealing with someone who is, to some degree, unhinged,
at least so far as this list is concerned. I didn't recently refer to
Millison as "apparently insane" gratuitously; I think there is something
quite wrong with him. So I obviously think Paul's "armchair
psychology"--given that this discussion is about what's gone awry with the
list--is appropriate and quite within bounds.

I know he cares greatly about Pynchon and his writing and I know he works
hard to contribute. Nevertheless, were Millison not on this list (to dream
the impossible dream), it is unlikely we would be having this discussion.
