The rocket and the Rocket and Imipolex and Imipolex G. 

As Fowler and others have noted, there are several internal
inconsistencies and contradictions; one big one pertains to
the Rocket/rockets, Slothrop's reaction to all V-2 rockets,
though the 00000 is the Rocket that contains the plastic
conditioning (292). That conditioning by JAMF (Jamf is also
a contradiction, love/death subconscious/psychological
conditional response explanation, Slothrop's own fantasy and
America's and so on) was in 1920 (84), but of course the
polymer was invented later, 1939 (249). Like the
rocket/Rocket and death/Death, the Imipolex (also the
permeable "interface" that is also a wall, penetrable by
some, like Blicero, who crosses the Wall over to the 175s
and infects them with the Rocket Structure, so that their
"liberation" is experienced as banishment from Dora,
Imipolex G is not only a conditioning odor (smells, odors
are very important to GR--i.e., bananas and polymers) used
by the behaviorists and other mad scientists of the Cartel
(Dupont, Shell, etc.) it is also a mysterious, religious if
you want, predisposition of preternatural origin. So we are
left not simply with ambiguity and contradiction and
inconsistency (another being color--black and white and
grey-white colorless), but Mystery that is preternatural.
The Time contradiction above, 1920 or 1939, is not a
contradiction, or at least, though not resolved, a
both/and,  if Slothrop has been "conditioned" or constructed
and disassembled, bu Super or Supra  Natural causes, forces,
Beings. There is something religious, Logos, primal,
timelessness, original, about the anti-paranoid  cortex and
the Paranoid (by which I mean a religious reaction to the
chaos, connecting the world, either as something structured
by a benevolence or a hostile god(s)) reactions to it, be
these Proverbs, Parables, Pilgrim's Progress or Pretending
(operational paranoia, as S's friend Tantivy advises), but
of course Slothrop ain't Pretending ace. 
The difficulty for Pynchon and for the reader, is that the
Mystery, the Mysterious Imipolex G in the subconscious of
Man, the one that is applied to the General state of affairs
and Extends Slothrop's erections to Their colonial outposts
and the "white Metropolis far away," is very far away
indeed, like something in the cortex and in the sky (it is
also SKIN, as skin in V. and a wedding dress for the new
Bride of Christ, and it too surrounds the globe in
contradistinction to the rainbow, a cosmic monster and its
electricity--skin or inserted, wired, as Slothrop too is
wired, also is an example of the contradictions that are
dependent upon what you want it to be or better said, which
heresy you accept, R&B van the man or maybe Rakete and
Blicero?) 
and on the screen. Western movies? Yeah, so that Western
with
Pointy and the plot and the midget Sheriff is not simply
postmodern relief, it's primal influence and anxiety. So the
Rocket too, is archetypal and like Imipolex, incarnate in
all the V-2 rockets that fall on London.
