Pynchon and corporations

Enjoy your cheap clothing and household trinkets produced by
exploited workers in conditions you wouldn't offer a dog (learned or
not) in sweatshops far away from your metropole comfort (just like
those colonies far, far away in Africa where the European can satisfy
his basest urges without staining the white-domed capitol): Slothrop
(co-opted down to the very Rocket in his pocket) dancing in the dark,
at the edge of the fire, with the ghostly little girl clutching her
doll with Jewish hair. Applaud the global charter'd companies as they
cut that Visto straight through the heart of a virgin continent,
plunder it with mines and smelters that make living hells for the
laborers therein, massacre the people who lived there first, then
cheer as those companies proceed to pervert the revolution that
sought to set the new nation free from the kings and powers that
served up the new world on a platter to the corporations in the first
place. Celebrate as Reagan, Bush, their Nazi cohorts, the
corporations that fund their political campaigns and control the TV
and other media that make us love them and the phony world they
create, pervert the workers' struggle for human rights, and continue
the work those charter'd companies started half a millennium ago.
After all, we're programmed this way, devil made us do it, we don't
have any choice, it's not as if we could think or write books that
show us the strings and wires and smoke and mirrors. Pay no attention
to that man behind the curtains sez the great Oz.
