Hello all, from a long time lurker...

Am I misreading something?  In the beginning of Chapter 11, on p. 305 (First 
Modern Library Edition, September 1966) there is a description of Maijstral's 
room:

"...standing just inside the door and turning clockwise one sees.... a window 
facing the Dockyard..."

but then a few paragraphs later, "Why use the room as introduction to an 
apologia?  Because the room, though windowless and cold at night, is a 
hothouse..."

What happens to the window at night?

Inquiring mind wants to know...
