Young Republicans

At the time of the quote Oedipa is not "young," is she? And she is
"embarassed" with the (former) title. I think that means she WAS a young
Republican. I interpret her embarassment as stemming from a realization of
how "domesticated" she was as a youth compared to the youth of the novel's
present day. Nowhere does it say she's become a Democrat, though.
Or does one stay a "Young Republican" forever?
