Col49 summary.
Real dry, no speculation.
This chapter starts with a brief goodbye to meek Mucho and ends with a tryst. Somewhere in the middle of all that we get religious instances, a bad movie, and a scene of sex, drugs, and rock n roll. Sounds like a trip into the L.A. area to me. But, Im sure there is more to this than just the surface story. I, for one just happen to like the surface story.
` Anyway, Oedipa drives on in to San Narciso in a rented car. She looks down a slope where the view reminds her of a transistor radio. This is where she has her first "moment". She wonders about Mucho. She drives on, passes Yoyodyne, and pulls over at the Echo Courts motel. The manager is a young kid who is in a band and makes some sort of pass at her.
` Later, Metzger the lawyer shows up. He tells her about his acting past while they get drunk, watch an old movie Metzger was supposedly in, dodge an out of control hairspray can, and screw to the tunes of The Paranoids. Then there is a blackout followed by a brief burst of tears from Oedipa. The chapter ends
