Well, this puts me in an Oedipesque position here, but
... but I'm inclined to think of this as a hoax, anmd
not only because there don't seem to be references to
it anywhere else. The cover art looks as if done
entirely "onscreen," rather than as if scanned from a
physical source. Note "2 Fat 2 Fry" in the track
listings. And the writer goes to way too much trouble
to stress its unavailability, not to mention NOT to
mention Pynchon, who those involved are indeed aware
of ...

"'...and a working band is a miracle of everyday life'
Thomas Pynchon wrote in the liner notes of
Lotions CD
Nobody's Cool."

The Invasion of the Body Snatchers cover art was a
nice touch, though, and I think those "band" headshots
might be Francis Galton photos, from one of those sets
of photos of, say, a military unit or somesuch which
FG would then superimpose to produce an "average"
portrait of a given group ...

But there have definitely been bands called The
Paranoids, e.g. ...

Although, strangely (?) enough (??), one of the images
there has disappeared ...

As far as I can tell the band is probably genuine,
given that a) the review-writer seems to own the two
'Paranoids' albums and b) seems innocently unaware of
Pynchon. Also, considering the ease with which one can
start an 'innovative guitar-pop' band and burn a
few CDs, the cute but appropriated cover art (Inv. of
the Body Snatchers, nice touch), and the
obsessive/devotional nature of many of us Pynchon
readers, not too much of a stretch to imagine
someone renaming their garage band ('C'mon guys, just
read the book, you'll get it!') and recording
something.
Course, it might just be an elaborate joke (well, it
is an elaborate joke no matter what) but I don't
really care either way. I'm not buying the album, if
anybody else has let me know (oh and I COULDN'T find
it on Ebay, but then I've never used Ebay before so I
might have been searching it wrong.
