Correct me if I'm wrong but LSD was developped in the late thirties by the
Suisse pharmaceutic industry as a new treatment for schizophrenic or
psychotic patients- is that right? So there was enough time until to the
early sixties that LSD could be known by the people who really wanted to know
something about it. It's plausible for me that several secret services or f.
e. the NASA made experiments with that drug to see how it could be used for
"brain washing" or something like that. I think the question whether the
knowledge about LSD was more or less widespread is of minor interest. Fact is
that LSD already existed 25 years before "Crying lot" was written.
Another point: Pychon wrote at the end of the fifties/beginning of the
sixties several PR articles for Boeing about missiles a. s. o. It would be
interesting for me if he had the opportunity in these times to get
information about secret activities of the CIA and other secret services. Of
course he had to be very careful if he used that information in his books,
but is it not thinkable that he really did it?
