A good timeline that shows the quickening of public awareness of LSD
beginning in 1966 after the slow rippling of awareness, interest, and
participation with the substance prior to that time.

The MAPS page that "wood jim" pointed to the other day tells a similar story
-- some 40,000 participants in LSD research studies world wide by the early
'60s (of a world population numbering in the billions), some thousands of
scientific papers published (hardly the daily fare of American TV viewers
and newspaper readers), some conferences for the researchers, and very
little in the way of mass media coverage until the government decides to
outlaw it.
