Anonymity ...

Now here's something I don't quite understand here. 
How "anonymous" is someone when everybody knows (or
can find out easily enough by asking) who someone
posting under a pseudonym is?  Conversely, what kind
of guarantee is a seemingly "normal" name that one is
not dealing with someone posting under a pseudonym? 
And why does any of this matter?  In waht situations? 
In what situations currently gaining here?  Me, I like
to know that I'm at leat dealing with the SAME person
from post to post, but, even so ... well, it's almost
a nonissue in some cases here, continuities are
obvious, and admitted.  Me, i'm surprised anybody
actually believes the same person is always posting
under "my" name, but ...
