Why on earth we'd want to NOT consider Hollander's reading of COL49 in a
discussion of that novel on Pynchon-L is beyond me. However you choose to
take his conclusions, Hollander provides a depth of information that adds
immensely to any discussion of the novel. I don't know of anybody who has
done more to see where this novel might lead in terms of historical,
political, and literary allusions.
Thanks again, Dave Monroe, for taking the time and making the effort to
bring Hollander's article into this discussion -- and I know that in so
doing you are NOT necessarily endorsing or agreeing with anything in his
article.
