Never-ending onion

COL49 is the first book I've read by Pynchon.  I'd heard his books
were difficult, but this one isn't, really.  There's just layer after layer
after layer waiting to be discovered.  Or read into.  Today I read
chapter 2 -- for the fourth time!  And *still* I sense I've barely
scratched the surface.  We could easily spend a week or two
on each chapter (hint, hint).
