Fallopian

Ok.  My OED on-line is down today.  The archives for the P-List aren't
responding... Searching, but I can't read the posts.  Paranoid... conspiracy
... hmm...

So I looked through my log of messages that have been piling up and couldn't
really find where we may have already discussed Mike Fallopian... outside of
the political aspect...

In my Webster's I find just one definition for Fallopian, it is this:

Fallopian Tube - n.  Either of the pair of  tubes conducting the egg from
the ovary to the uterus.

Anybody connect the name with the definition?  I feel like comparing Mike F.
to the tubes and Oedipa as the egg being conducted is a bit of a stretch...
anyone... ?  I will check the OED for other definitions - work histories -
later.

Going back to chapter 3, around page 50.  Fallopian is eager to talk, to
provide information, read his mail.  He appears briefly I think at the
beginning of chapter four also.  But the change comes when Oedipa returns to
The Scope in chapter 6.    Fallopian is bearded and has female guards.  He
speaks in riddles:

Oedipa said, "I'm surprised you people aren't using the system too."

"Are we an underground?" he came back, mild enough.  "Are we rejects?"

"I didn't mean ---"

"Maybe we haven't found them yet," said Fallopian.  "Or maybe we are using
W.A.S.T.E., only it's a secret.... but there is another angle too... Has it
ever occurred to you, Oedipa, that somebody's putting you on?"

Mike is one of the people around her that haven't gone mad or dead.  But he
does go through a change.

I'd love to hear any insight anyone has on M.F.
